I WONDER if anyone can give me some clue as to the plan for the future of the roads around Bear Cross.
It has long been the case, during the rush hour and at the weekend, that Ringwood Road, Christchurch Road, and Wimborne Road are very congested. The opening of the new Tesco has not helped this situation and as other building projects reach their conclusion it is becoming difficult to see how the roads in the area will cope.
Shortly the Duck Lane development will be occupied with, one would suppose, at least 70 cars added to the mix. That will be closely followed by the development on the Coppins site on Christchurch Road, with a similar number. Those two sites are, however, just the tip of the iceberg. The green fields site at the junction of Christchurch Road and Ringwood Road, is planned for development, as is the green site at Parley Crossroads.
Between them they will provide at least 500 homes, which translates into between 750 and 1000 cars. Manor Farm in Kinson has been bought by a development company, who will be seeking to build over 300 homes on that site, although how they will gain access is a puzzle.
My guess would be that the roads in this area are pretty close to saturation point even without the yearly influx of holiday makers. The constant upheaval caused by road works and the continuing worsening of the road surfaces add to the mix, as will the reduction of the Wessex Way to single lane for some considerable time. I don’t even want to think about the air quality in the area with constant queues of traffic. Can anyone convince me that I am worrying about nothing?
