Last weekend’s end of November Fair at Highcliffe Castle, a vital fundraising and awareness occasion for many local and international charities with local connections, was a total washout.
The castle’s management made no effort to promote the event with road signage or press notices, or even in the Castle grounds.
It was quite by accident I discovered there was anything going on inside along with only about eight others who had made the same discovery.
There wasn’t a vestige of Christmas spirit – no tree, no music, just mostly bored looking stallholders who had been there hours, engaging with lamentably few and equally bored visitors.
We are so lucky to have the Castle which in itself is a great draw for visitors. But last Sunday it felt sad, unloved and unwelcoming.
