It is heartening to know that the Bournemouth Air Festival was enjoyed by thousands and that the local traders had a bumper weekend, but has anyone spared a thought for the plight of our feathered friends?

On the Friday I walked through the gardens where the birds are normally twittering and flitting around quite happily but on this occasion most of them were just perched trembling on the lower branches. Most of the seagulls initially continued to brave the seafront but when the Typhoon swooped over them on Saturday they became quite demented and the look of horror on their little faces was distressing to witness.

With the huge resources at their disposal surely it would be a simple matter for the RSPCA to round them up and transport them to a place of safety for the duration of the show?
