I WAS saddened to hear of former councillor Phil Carey’s passing. What an example of how to live one’s life.
Phil was a true gentleman and a good friend to me, especially during his years of service on Bournemouth council.
He joined our group of Independents after the decision to pull down the Winter Gardens concert hall.
I well remember sitting with him at the very last concert which was given by the BSO, then the doors were closed.
Phil organised a superb concert for me during my mayoral year, raising well over £1,000.
This was Phil – a true giver in life and a wonderful community councillor in Boscombe West and indeed the town.
There is so much to write about him but I know that over the last several years he will be fondly remembered for his Christmas collection of toys supported by the Daily Echo to give to children in our town who may not receive any gifts at all.
Hundreds of toys collected every year by Phil, a man in his 90s.
Bournemouth will be a poorer place without him but I know that his belief and way of life kept him strong in spirit.
Our prayers and thoughts go to his family who I know Phil loved so very much.
Thank you Phil for your service to Bournemouth.
CLLR ANNE REY, leader of the Independents, Bournemouth Borough Council
