FOR the third year running, Poole Borough Council claims to have ‘frozen’ council tax (ignoring the police and fire service precepts) and indeed they should be thanked for controlling their overall budget.
However, for the third year Poole has levied a surcharge for their green bin collection which, at the discounted prepayment rate is now 15 per cent higher than last year and a compounded 29 per cent since introduction.
So, the actual total of Poole council’s element in the bill has indeed increased, not frozen as is claimed.
Although the sum involved is quite small as a percentage of the total bill, it is ridiculous of Poole council to claim their council tax is frozen, especially bearing in mind the amount of revenue gained from the green bin surcharge.
