I congratulate Bournemouth Borough Council for using their resources to absorb increased costs for policing and fire services.
I would however point out that Borough of Poole, third lowest funded unitary authority in England, still has the lowest council tax in Dorset for the 14th successive year, despite receiving 37.7 per cent (£194.87) per household less than Bournemouth in government settlement.
We are also only allowed to keep 25 pence in the pound in New Business Rates income generated compared to Bournemouth’s 42 pence.
I would also point out that Borough of Poole has had no financial overspends since 2003 and has managed its finances and services, through austerity, with prudence and care.
CLLR ELAINE ATKINSON,
Borough of Poole
