We hear a lot of words but little action from politicians when it comes to looking after the senior members of our societies. Well here’s a chance for them to step up to the plate and do some good.

There’s a strong threat to reduce yellow bus route services 21 and 111 which serve elderly residents on River Way, The Grove, and Hillside Road in Christchurch. Instead of an hourly service the services will be amalgamated and reduced to only four each day. That severely cuts their access to Christchurch centre, Castlepoint and attending to medical appointments. Not to mention problems for people travelling to work.

The reason? Without any consultation Dorset County Council aims to drop the subsidies on these routes.

As one sorrowful pensioner put it: What’s the point of a bus pass if there are no bus services?

Come on you councillors. Think again.
