I HAVE A slightly different opinion of political policies and Margaret Thatcher to Gordon Cann (Echo, April 15).

The post-war Labour government wanted everyone to be under their control living in council houses which we objected to.

The first thing the Conservatives did when elected was allow private building. We purchased a plot of land for £200, got a mortgage with the council and built our dream home on Wallisdown Road.

By the Tories allowing us to buy our first house, many years we were later in a position to sell and purchase the lease on an old run down business.

Two of us worked 100 hours a week for 17 years, bought the property plus two others during different governments ‘boom and bust’ years.

She then made it possible for workers like us to become shareholders which eventually enabled us to travel the world.

Yes she made mistakes, but people that never make mistakes never make anything.
