HAVING had hearing difficulties for many years, I have encountered many frustrating issues.

I am unable to use the telephone.

When informing people of my deafness, they proceed to talk into their lap, or with their back to you, then wonder why you do not answer.

Of course, over the years one gets to accept these things but what I am unable to understand is the lack of consideration from some of the major companies, especially one of our leading communications companies.

A simple request as I was considering a change of internet supplier as I am dependent on the web for communication.

There was not even the courtesy of an acknowledgement, yet two of their competitors replied within 24 hours.

As I have been with the company for many a year I tried the chief executive for an answer. No go. Instead there was a rather patronising exchange with a spin our leading MPs would be proud of. That’s not the British way, is it? Or is that the telecom way of being British?
