THIS month two cousins came to visit me from Canada. UK-born, they have lived in Canada for over 40 years.
Both were ill during their visit but as they had insurance they were happy to pay to see a doctor and for treatment.
We phoned 111 and got an appointment for the same day. They saw a doctor at the ‘out of hours’ service and got medication but at no time were they asked for payment.
Even the medication was free as they were over 60.
My cousins were very happy with the service they received but thought how silly we are not to ask for payment.
How many people come to the UK and get free treatment? Why don't we charge?
I would have to pay if I went to Canada.
Something should be done about this loophole.
