I NOTE with some dismay and concern the fact that Christchurch’s council is to start charging for car parking after 7pm from April 1.
The car parks up to this date have always been free to use of an evening. I think in particular of the car park at the rear of Marks and Spencer and the Waitrose car park.
What extra income does the misguided council think is going to be produced by the dozen or so cars that park in them after 9pm? And much more importantly, how is this to be enforced?
On any number of occasions I see two “wardens” working together to ticket fewer than five parked cars.
The last time the costs for this department were available online it showed a total of eight “wardens” with of course all the line managers and backroom staff to support them. All for a small town like Christchurch.
