HAVING read your article in the Echo on Saturday January 12, I am amazed by the aggressive response to the proposed clean energy wind turbines off the coast of Poole and Bournemouth.

Firstly they are a clean alternative; secondly, I believe they are pleasant to look at and do not spoil the view; thirdly, any sailor worth his salt (qualified to safely negotiate any obstacle on a coastal chart) can navigate below decks using an up to date chart in foggy conditions giving instructions to the on deck crew.

Shifting sandbanks, wrecks and obstacles of any kind are clearly marked so what’s a few wind turbines to make a fuss about? The trouble is anybody can buy a boat and motor or sail it without needing to acquire any qualifications! It also puzzles me that the Parkstone Yacht Club Commodore should have a problem with navigational issues, or is it just the view he is talking about?

We are talking about the quality of life for coming generations to this beautiful part of the world.

I would like to ask if they would like a nuclear power station just off the coastal point? This is not what I would call clean energy. I suppose it really all comes down to “not in my backyard” again. I just feel that holding these proposals up with bickering will not help for many reasons.

We are in dire need of alternative clean energy as many power stations are coming to the end of their lives. If I was a young person I would enjoy the work involved in the running of these clean projects. A far cry from nuclear waste.
