IT was nice to read the article in respect of AFC Bournemouth`s players visiting children in Poole Hospital as they do every year at Christmas (Daily Echo, December 28).

I know AFCB do so much in the local community, especially for children, and it’s great that Eddie Howe has got them playing so well during such a long, unbeaten run.

I do, however, feel it prudent to point out that local charity, Hospital Radio Bedside, have around 40 volunteer request collectors and hospital visitors who visit patients in five local hospitals (including Royal Bournemouth and Poole) every day of the year.

We speak to them and ask for their favourite piece of music which we then play for them on our evening request shows. It definitely helps to cheer them up, which is our main aim at all times.

I am the presenter of our children’s request show called Ikidz and visit the children’s wards twice every week.

In 2012, exactly 1,000 requests were obtained from the children with many a smile put on their faces.

In total, HRB members collected 6,600 requests from our hospitals in 2012, but desperately need more collectors and hospital visitors.

Please ring 01202 303887 or visit hospitalradiobedside.co.uk if you would like to join the team. Hospital Radio Bedside celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012.
