YET another airline pulling out of Hurn airport (Daily Echo, Jan 3).
Now Blue Islands is stopping services to Jersey as from next month! All that money spent on a new terminal and still the airport management cannot get the airlines to stay.
I say first of all to drop that £2.50 drop-off fee, which is killing off the airport, and to bring back the very pleasant seating area which was located in front of the cafe for a handy cup of tea and cake.
It also served its purpose in letting people see off their family and friends going on holiday!
Finally, it was an ideal viewing area for us aircraft enthusiasts, far better than paying £4 parking fee at the present site.
The aviation museum was also a draw then but I do not say it’s such an attractive draw now since its re-location to a field opposite.
I have fond memories when I sat with my friends at the enclosure end watching the Silver City Bristol freighters, DC3’s and Channel Airways Viscounts and not to forget the smokey CV990A Spantax Coronado.
They were the days. Sadly missed.
Come on, airport management. Drop that silly £2.50 drop-off fee and bring back the airport to where it should be – full of airliners.
