JACKY Harris (Echo Monday 12th November) has made a comment ‘I agree it’s not satisfactory that money appears to have been wasted on it’ in regard to the surf reef.
I cannot understand why nobody checked the information on requirements for a successful surf reef. Just taking the word of the company involved seemed naive.
I do hope that all the businessess that started up along the Boscombe to Southbourne seafront will still be able to make a living.
It seems the surf reef will now be an area for diving.
So money was invested to produce facilities and entertainment for locals and visitors. But when we mention a swimming pool at Bournemouth seafront or an ice rink, which also would benefit locals and visitors and be a wet weather facility which we urgently need, we are told that the council do not want to subsidise this.
Yet, managed correctly both would make a profit and help to bring back our holidaymakers all year round.
I am pleased Boscombe is beginning to smarten up and in time be a safe and pleasant place to visit and live as it was many years ago.
Our town should be on the news for wonderful changes and a great place to go, not for drunken nights and drug dealers.
