SWANAGE & Wareham remained rooted to the foot of South West One East after a fourth consecutive defeat.

Swans crashed to a 58-16 reverse at Reading on Saturday, with Chris Greig opening the scoring for the hosts early on.

Reading moved further in front thanks to a penalty, before Charlie Parish dived over for the Purbeckers to make it 8-5.

Reading’s Mike Grubb, though, touched down for a converted try, before the home side added two more tries before half-time to leave Swans reeling 27-8 behind.

A Parish penalty reduced the arrears after the restart, but a quickfire brace of converted tries for Reading made the score 41-11 15 minutes from time.

And as Swans struggled to make any further impact, Reading’s James Guttridge crashed over for a hat-trick of tries to make the score 58-11.

Swans did finish strongly, however, with Joe Desmond forcing his way over for a try late on as the clash finished 58-16.
