Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell has revealed Rotherham United’s interest in loaning Matt Tubbs but he insists: “He has got a job to do for us.”

Mitchell this afternoon confirmed that the Dorset club had turned down an approach from the Millers to recruit Cherries’ record signing on a temporary basis.

Rotherham boss Steve Evans had already been unsuccessful with a close-season swoop for the striker he managed during a fruitful spell at Crawley Town.

Mitchell reported that Rotherham approached Cherries with a view to taking Tubbs on loan.

However, he says the Verwood -raised striker currently remains a part of Cherries’ plans.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “There has been interest from Rotherham but, at this moment in time, he is with us and we want him with us.”

Tubbs, who is battling the likes of Lee Barnard, Wes Thomas and Lewis Grabban for a Cherries starting spot, has repeatedly been linked with a move away from Dorset this summer.

Evans is a known admirer of the frontman, while rumours have also suggested Preston are interested.

Speaking to themillers.co.uk on Sunday, Evans said: “I have a meeting with the chairman early in the week to discuss the squad in detail and the players that we have an interest in.

“I have said many times, there are transfer funds and loan wages available but we have to spend those monies wisely.”

Mitchell also reported that there had been no interest in any other member of the Cherries squad ahead of the transfer deadline at 11pm on Friday.
