BROCKENHURST College Academy put the finishing touches to a fruitful campaign by adding the British Colleges National Cup to their already impressive trophy haul.

Having retained the South East League and Hampshire League titles and the South East & East England Cup, Brock headed to Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium to face Myerscough College.

Their route to the final had seen them register a convincing 20-0 home win over Bodmin in the last four following some tough assignments on the road in Peterborough and West Suffolk.

Myerscough were on a revenge mission having been beaten by Brock in last season’s semi-final, while the Hampshire outfit knew victory would see them rewrite the record books as the first team to win the National Cup and four trophies in a season.

A hat-trick of tries, coupled with two conversions and a penalty, from captain Cameron Duffus helped Brock run out comprehensive 43-5 victors.

Bournemouth’s Lewis Royley and New Milton’s Harry Dolbear also touched down, while Oakmeadians’ Tom Keir added a drop goal. Brendan Streather and Chris Soards were also among the points.

Alan Steel, who coaches alongside Bryn Coslett and Dan Ap Dayfdd, said: “The Rugby Academy has gone from strength to strength since it started six years ago and this season’s trophy haul is down to the sheer hard work and determination of all the players involved.

“To finish the season as National Cup champions and to win it in the way they did at Worcester’s Premiership ground shows the level that the college rugby team aims for.

“It has been an immense season and all three of us as coaches could not have asked for any more from the players. We are all very proud of the whole Academy.”
