BOURNEMOUTH chief David Dunn insists his men possess the firepower to successfully pursue their place in the local rugby record books.

Dunn is adamant Lions have nothing to fear as they bid to take a giant leap towards elevation to the fourth tier of the English game against Chinnor at Chapel Gate tomorrow (3pm).

The victors of the potential winner-takes-all National Three South West title showdown will move into pole position in the race to claim the division’s only automatic promotion berth.

A Bournemouth win would leave make the Dorset outfit huge favourites to move to the highest level in the club’s history – with wins in Lions’ final three matches then standing between them and National Two rugby.

But a Chinnor success would see them gain the upper hand ahead of their final four matches.

Bournemouth were beaten 21-15 when the teams met in Oxfordshire in November.

But having been handed a title lifeline when Chinnor lost to Barnstaple, Dunn says Lions can turn the tables in their own back yard.

Lions’ director of rugby told the Daily Echo: “We have played against Chinnor over a number of years and they don’t change the way they play.

“We didn’t perform very well up there but it is a very difficult place to go and it doesn’t suit the way we play.

“But we beat them on our own patch last season and we have got absolutely nothing to fear.

“They have got all the worrying to do. They lost last time out against Barnstaple.

“All we have got to do is win this game and the chances are we will win the league outright.

“They have got to worry about us and then they have got to worry about other games as well before they get anywhere near the championship.

“It is all about us on the day. They have got their own things to worry about and all we have got to do is get it right for us.

“If we get it right for us, there isn’t any team in our league that can live with us.”

Dunn continued: “Our objective is to win the league but to win it having beaten everybody.

“We are in a very positive frame of mind and we feel that on our own patch, we can really take on these guys.”

Dunn added: “We are expecting a bumper crowd and a great atmosphere.

“We are bidding to become the highest placed local rugby team – nobody has ever been in National Two.”
