KARTING double act Jessica Hawkins and Macaulay Austin have made winning starts for their newly-formed Ferndown-based team.

The teenage Super KF3 drivers won club championship races in their new Dino DR50 karts at Buckmore Park (Kent) and Clay Pigeon Raceway (Dorchester).

Jessica and Macauley were representing Dino PKP Motorsport which is run by ex-karters Sean Girdler, from Poole, and his partner Leon Cole.

Poole racer Jessica, who won at Buckmore Park, said: “Following the testing program we had over the winter it was good to finally put the DR50 up against the competition.

“The chassis felt good from the start and to win by 2.5 seconds was fantastic,” said the 17-year-old, who has stepped up to the top junior class this season.

Team manager Girdler was impressed with his new signing who finished fifth in her British junior class last term.

“We always knew Jess and the DR50 would be a great combination but to win first time out is brilliant,” said Girdler.

Macauley, meanwhile, finished first, third and second in his heats to claim pole position on the grid for the final at Clay Pigeon Raceway.

The 16-year-old, from Wales, went on to win in the final.

“To win the first time out with PKP and the new Dino DR50 was the best feeling and could be the start of some great results for us in 2012,” said Macauley.

Joint team manager Cole added: “Mac totally dominated the day with the DR50 and showed what a success the team are capable of.”

Jessica and Macauley will go head-to-head in the forthcoming MSA British Championship (KF3) season.

The seven-meeting British series starts on April 20-21 at the Grantham circuit in Lincolnshire.

“We see our main role in management and will be looking to secure the best teams for Jessica and Macauley to join next year,” added Girdler.
