TOM Mitchell believes Cherries have built a squad capable of reaching the play-offs – but he is refusing to rule out deadline-day drama.

The Cherries director has been working closely with manager Lee Bradbury on player recruitment during the past month.

Striker Matt Tubbs became Cherries’ latest acquisition when he joined yesterday in a record deal, the package understood to have been worth in the region of £800,000.

But the Daily Echo understands Cherries are keen to bring in one more recruit – with sources suggesting a fresh move for Swindon Town playmaker Matt Ritchie could be on the cards.

Colchester United’s Anthony Wordsworth has also been linked with a move to the south coast.

When asked whether he was expecting a busy day ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline, Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “Possibly – time will tell.

“I wouldn’t rule it out. But at this moment in time, the squad we have got now is more than capable of reaching the play-offs.”

Meanwhile, Cherries stars Wes Thomas and Marc Pugh are both understood to be attracting interest from Championship clubs.

Thomas is understood to be on Doncaster Rovers’ radar, with both Burnley and Derby believed to be taking a look at Marc Pugh after watching the winger against Chesterfield on Friday night.

Boss Bradbury could also be set to allow some of his fringe players to go out on loan.
