CAPTAIN Dave Allen admitted his disappointment after the red mist descended as eight-man Bashley controversially exited the FA Trophy.

Bash surrendered a late lead and had three players dismissed in extra-time on their way to a 4-2 first qualifying round defeat at the hands of Worthing.

The New Forest outfit had looked set to progress from Tuesday’s replay after James Stokoe netted his second goal of the game on 87 minutes.

But Worthing skipper Tom Manton completed a double of his own to force extra-time – with Bash going on to lose the tie and a trio of players in the process.

John Lansdale converted a hotly-disputed penalty to put the hosts in front before Mark Gamble was sent off for two bookable offences.

Luke Whitley was then given his marching orders before Lansdale sealed the win by adding added a fourth for the hosts.

To compound Bashley’s woes, Tom Hill became the third visiting player to be dismissed by referee Michael Webb.

Allen, who was introduced as a second-half substitute after completing his dash from a work conference in Bristol by half-time, told the Daily Echo: “Worthing got back into the game and we were under quite a bit of pressure.

“But James scored a second three minutes from the end but, unfortunately, we leaked another goal almost immediately. We should be seeing out games when we go 2-1 up in the 87th minute.

“We were quite confident going into extra-time and thought we might have been slightly fitter, but we had three players sent off.

“It is hard enough to win games with 11 players on the pitch sometimes, let alone with eight, nine or ten.”

Allen felt Bash should have held on after going ahead.

He added: “From being 2-1 up with three minutes to go, we should have seen it out, especially in a cup competition with a home tie in the next round.”
