HOT prospect Danny Ings admits he needs to be more clinical in front of goal but insists he will find his golden touch.

The homegrown forward, in his first season as a professional, has burst into Cherries’ first team with a number of eye-catching displays in his 19 League One appearances.

Ings, 18, was rewarded for his efforts earlier this term when he was handed an improved two-and-a-half year contract, tying him to Dean Court at least until the summer of 2013.

But while he has produced a series of encouraging performances, Ings has found goals hard to come by.

The Winchester-born frontman was thwarted on a number of occasions in a frantic finale against Charlton Athletic on Saturday and has hit the net just twice for the senior side.

Despite the frustration of seeing chances go begging, Ings remains determined to improve his game and has confidence in his finishing prowess.

He told the Echo: “I just need to make sure I am composed in front of goal and a little bit more relaxed to place the ball into the net.

“I know I can do it because I do it in training every day but I just seem to be getting stuck in a game at the moment.

“I am very pleased with how I am playing – that is the only thing that needs to click.

“I’m sure when that clicks, good things will start happening for me in front of goal. I think my all-round game is good. I work as hard as I can for the team.

“Fans will look at me and say I don’t score enough goals. I am only new to it – but I know that is not an excuse.

“I’m sure they are going to come. And when they do come, as I have said before, it will just click and come together and I know I will score goals because I can do it.”

Ings, who struck seven goals during a productive loan spell with Dorchester Town earlier this term, added: “Every striker has a time like I have been going through recently.

“But they also have good times where they score three or four in a game and everything they seem to touch goes in.

“I just don’t seem to have had that luck yet.

“I know it is important for a striker to score goals so I think I have to be a little bit more clinical in front of goal and, hopefully, put away those chances.”
