DAVID Dunn insists his Lions charges are ready to establish themselves “fair and square” as National Three South West promotion big guns.

Lions all but sealed their play-off place behind leaders Hartpury College by hammering Weston-super-Mare 70-24 on Saturday.

But ahead of their home clash against third-placed Old Patesians tomorrow, Dunn has told his troops to prove they are genuine National Two standard by dishing out a drubbing to their nearest rivals.

Dunn told the Echo: “Saturday will confirm our status as runners-up and we go into it full of confidence. We’ve had two big wins in the past two weeks whereas Old Pates have been stuttering.

“We really want to establish ourselves fair and square in the top two in the league.”

Lions will play either Hertford or Barnes from National Three London & South East in a play-off, with the two runaway sides in that league set to face each other tomorrow.

For Dunn, who coached Lions to a play-off win in the old South West Two East in 2007, the club’s current position is a far cry from the dark days of Southern Counties South at the turn of the millennium.

He added: “I’ve been around the club for a long time and I have known the hard times, so this is fantastic. The buzz around the club is amazing and I’m so pleased for the players, who are getting their rewards.

“I’m also pleased for people off the pitch like Doug Warren (president), Denis Eve-leigh (chairman) and all the supporters. It’s a really great place to be at the moment.”

Dunn makes one change from the side that beat Weston-super-Mare, with Simon Lilley replacing the unavailable Ben Stewart.
