DANNY Cadamarteri came off the bench to grab a dramatic late leveller as Cherries were forced to settle for a share of the spoils with League One promotion rivals Huddersfield.

Cadamarteri netted in the closing stages to cancel out Michael Symes’s 74th-minute header as Cherries again paid a heavy price for conceding a late goal.

Symes nodded Cherries in front following good work by Liam Feeney, his third goal in as many games appearing destined to settle a scrappy contest in favour of the hosts.

But after Cadamarteri had linked well with fellow substitute Benik Afobe, the former Everton star popped up to ruin Cherries’ hopes of joining Brighton at the League One summit.

Cherries went close to drawing first blood when Marc Pugh tried to pick out Jason Pearce with a free kick, the defender just failing to make contact at the far post.

Adam Smith’s timely interception prevented Jamie McCombe from getting on the end of a Gary Roberts cross before Pugh’s shot flew wide of the target.

A speculative effort from Symes flashed past the upright, while a rasping drive from Roberts soared over the crossbar.

Symes also saw his header drift wide before Anton Robinson nodded a Pugh corner narrowly past the post.

In truth, chances had been few and far between during an often scrappy first half – until Pugh let fly in added time.

However, after latching on to a flick from Danny Ings, Pugh saw his blistering drive parried by Terriers goalkeeper Ian Bennett, diving full length to his right.

Bennett also took centre stage when he tipped Pugh’s exquisite free-kick for a corner as the second half finally came to life after 62 minutes.

Cherries appealed in vain for a penalty after Danny Hollands’s flick had appeared to strike Joey Gudjonsson on the hand, referee David Phillips awarding only a corner.

Defender Rhoys Wiggins ventured forward to try his luck, his 72nd-minute shot saved at his near post by Bennett.

Cherries made the breakthrough just two minutes later when Symes was on hand to head home Feeney’s precision cross from close range.

The adopted Liverpudlian timed his run to perfection and Feeney teed him up invitingly for his seventh goal of the season and third in as many games.

However, there was a nasty sting in the tail for Cherries when substitute Cadamarteri worked an opening before firing home the equaliser in the closing stages.
