LIAM Green insisted Wimborne Town had “nothing to fear” despite Magpies crashing to yet another Zamaretto Division One home defeat.

Alex Browne’s side went down 1-0 to Hungerford at Cuthbury, with Ryan Crockford’s late strike enough to seal the points for the Berkshire play-off hopefuls.

Vice-captain Green, though, remains convinced Magpies have what it takes at step four level – despite Tuesday’s reverse being their eighth defeat in 10 games.

Green told the Echo: “To be honest, Tuesday’s match showed us there is nothing to fear in this league.

“I think the only teams that have been a class above us have been Totton and Sholing. Obviously the results might not back that up, but that is how we feel when we are out on the park.”

Magpies went into the clash on the back of successive home wins over fellow strugglers Andover and Clevedon but, despite several second half chances, could not find a breakthrough.

And Magpies conceded what Green described as a “sloppy goal” just four minutes from time.

Green added: “I think it was a lack of concentration and the one time they really got in behind us.

“We just ran out of steam at the end, but it’s nice to be competing against those teams again.”

Magpies now sit third from bottom in the table in what is their debut season at Southern League level.

Magpies: Malara, Yelland, Cole, Frampton, Lloyd (Curtis, 73), Culliford, Green, Hunt, Allen (Roast, 78), Chudy, James. Unused subs: Wilson, Lockyer, Walker-Harris.
