POOLE Town’s FA Vase hopeful Micky Hubbard turned down Bashley to pursue his Wembley dream and insisted: We’re good enough to go all the way.

Bashley boss Steve Riley held discussions with the Dolphins playmaker after submitting a seven-day notice of approach last week.

He had been keen to sign the former Cherries trainee as Bash looked to launch a late push for the Southern League play-offs.

Hubbard is keen to move up the non-league ranks after starring for Poole since joining them from Wessex League rivals Hamworthy United.

Since swapping the County Ground for Tatnam in summer 2008, the midfield maestro has helped Dolphins secure back-to-back titles and scored 22 goals in 133 appearances.

But despite his desire to test himself at a higher level, Hubbard has refused the opportunity to join Bash at this stage.

He admitted Poole’s exciting Vase campaign had been a major factor in his decision, with Tom Killick’s side closing in on a Wembley final as well as a third consecutive Premier Division triumph and possible promotion.

Hubbard told the Echo: “Tommy wants me to stay because of the Vase and that is the main reason I am staying. And it is not just that, Poole is a big club as well.

“Playing at Wembley would be a dream for any player. Especially having come out of the professional game, you think you’re never going to play anywhere like that.

“Anything is possible now. If we want it enough, I think we’ve got a good enough team to go all the way.”

Hubbard, who learned his trade in the Cherries youth set-up before building a good reputation in the non-league ranks, confessed he would have found it difficult to quit Tatnam.

He added: “It would be hard to walk away from Poole anyway, not just because of the Vase.

“It is a good club. With Tommy Killick and Steve Cuss and everyone around the club, it would have been a hard decision either way.

“I want to push on but Steve Riley didn’t put me in a (difficult) position, he just said the door was open.”

Discussing Hubbard at the weekend, Riley said: “We’re short of numbers and I’m looking at players who have got the calibre to play at our level. He fits the bill.”

Hubbard is now likely to stay with Dolphins until at least the end of the season.
