HARRY Kemp recorded six of the best as he led a 53-medal haul by Poole and Bournemouth swimmers at the Exeter City Level 1 Open Meet held, despite its name, in Cardiff’s 50m pool.

Swimmng against many of the best swimmers in the South, the Midlands and Wales, the Poole 10-year-old’s achievements included two national qualifying times and eight club records as well as six gold medals and one silver.

He added the 10yrs 400m individual medley to his programme for the national age group championships in July with a winning time of 5:45.77, which also broke the club records for the 10, 11 and 12yrs age groups.

He then improved his 200m backstroke national time by a second with 2:40.92, which is a 10yrs club record.

Both times put him second to Hatfield’s Nathan Hughes in the 10yrs national rankings and the pair can expect to meet in the national 11yrs finals in July.

Kemp’s other gold medals came in the 200m medley (2:44.68), 200m butterfly (2:51.72) and the 200m and 400m freestyle (2:25.84 and 5:03.61) and his silver in the 200m breaststroke (3:21.05).

Dan Speers – already Britain’s top-ranked 13-year-old 200m breaststroker – needed to lower his PB of 2:39.54 by the smallest possible margin to book his nationals ticket in the 14yrs age group.

Amazingly, he did precisely that, clocking 2:39.53 to win the event by six seconds.

And just as amazingly, the time broke six club records – for the 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17yrs and open age groups.

Speers also won silver in the 100m freestyle (58.44) and bronze in the 100m butterfly (1:10.34).

Courtney Rowan, 14, added the 100m freestyle to her programme for the national youth championships with a gold-winning 1:00.08, which also broke five club records.

She also won silver in the 14yrs 50m freestyle and butterfly (27.81 and 30.03) and bronze in the 200m free (2:15.89).

Todd Price, Emily Clarke and Maddy Kemp each broke several club records as they added to Poole’s tally of 32 medals.

Price’s gold and silver in the 400 and 200m freestyle respectively included an 11-second PB of 4:26.27 in the longer event.

Clarke won gold in the 13yrs 200m butterfly, 400m medley and 1500m freestyle and silver in the 800m free.

Kemp won gold in the 12yrs 400m medley, silver in the 100m fly, 200m medley and 400m free and bronze in the 200m free.

National age group champion Alan Wong struck gold three times to top Swim Bournemouth’s tally of 21 medals.

He won the 13yrs 100 and 200m backstroke in 1:05.34 and 2:20.66 and the 100m butterfly in 1:06.71.

Jasmine Holmes won two medals of each colour in the 11yrs age group – gold in the 400m medley and 800m freestyle, silver in the 200m freestyle and medley and bronze in the 100 and 400m free.

Naomi Vides won gold in the 16/o 200m breaststroke and 400m medley and silver in the 50m breast while brother Noah took gold in the 14yrs 100m breast (1:12.85).

Other medallists: Poole: 12yrs Bradley Currie 1st 1500m free, 2nd 400m medley; Jade Norman 2nd 800m free; Harrison Moore 3rd 400m medley. 13yrs Dan Monk 3rd 400m medley. 14yrs Georgia Kemp 2nd 400m medley. 15yrs Katie Mills 3rd 400m medley.
