CHERRIES star Liam Feeney is hoping to showcase his talents on the international stage – with no fewer than four different countries open to him.

Feeney qualifies for England having been born in London, Jamaica through his father – and both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland courtesy of his grandparents.

His mother’s parents both hail from across the Irish Sea with representatives from the Republic having already run the rule over the flying winger.

And the 23-year-old has certainly boosted his chances of earning a call-up by producing a series of eye-catching displays since the turn of the year.

Feeney scored in wins over Plymouth and Brentford and also provided assists for Marvin Bartley and Steve Fletcher to net against the Bees.

His long throws also played a pivotal role in Cherries’ New Year’s Day victory at Swindon, the first of three successive wins for Eddie Howe’s men.

Feeney told the Daily Echo: “Every player wants to represent their country and I am no different. It is something I would love to do and I need to keep playing well for Bournemouth.

“It would be a great honour to be asked to play for a national team and it is something I am aiming for.

“I have been pleased with my form this season. Goals had been the only thing missing for me so it was great to get a couple in the past two games. Hopefully, I can get a few more in the second half of the season.”

Feeney was one of Howe’s first signings when the Cherries boss plucked him from non-league Salisbury in January 2009.

The Hammersmith-born ace, who could be a transfer window target for his local club Brentford, said he was delighted to see the Cherries manager stay at Dean Court.

“I’m buzzing,” added Feeney. “Eddie brought me here and both him and Jason have done brilliantly for me and the club.

“He has worked with me every day since I first arrived. He stays behind and helps me and tells me where I need to improve. He has given me the opportunity to play in a good team and in a good league and I can’t thank him enough for that.

“It has given everybody a huge lift and there has never been a bigger incentive than to try to achieve something this season.

“As players, we didn’t know any more than anyone else and it wasn’t nice not knowing whether he was staying or going.

“But it didn’t distract us from our jobs as we showed against Plymouth. We went out and put on a great performance. We didn’t let it affect the football side of things but it did play on your mind when you were away from football. I’m delighted it has all be sorted and he is staying.”
