NEW Milton defender Liam Winzar was sent off for the second game in a row as they slipped to a 1-0 away defeat on a saturated pitch against highflying Brading.

Scott Jones bagged the islanders’ first-half winner only 10 minutes after Winzar saw red for allegedly pushing a Brading player after a New Milton man had been fouled.

Linnets assistant-manager Mark Winzar said: “Our performance was very good. We played really well in a game that should never have been started.

“The pitch conditions were absolutely atrocious, waterlogged, and unfortunately Liam was sent off after 15 minutes.

“One of their players went over the top of the ball and whacked one of our players. Liam pushed one of their players in retaliation and it caused a bit of a melee.

“He got a straight red for reacting but the player who caused the whole incident got away with a yellow card.”

Mark Winzar added: “For 75 minutes, we played with only 10 men and it was an individual mistake from our goalkeeper that cost us the game, but that’s neither here nor there because he made some great saves after that.”

New Milton: Amey, L Winzar, Booker, Littler, Drew, Wiltshire, Lever, T Winzar (Fields 75), Fox (Alcon 85), White, Stanley.

<•>Hamworthy United boss Simon Browne felt it was “definitely two points dropped” after his high-riding side were held to a 0-0 home draw by mid-table Alresford.

Luke Burbidge went close with two first-half headers and Dave Ewen also had a six-yard shot saved by Alresford’s goalkeeper before the break.

Browne said: “In the second half it was virtually one-way traffic with us peppering their goal.

“Dan Haysom hit the bar, but it was just one of those days when the ball wouldn’t go in. Alresford were cock-a-hoop at the end to come away with a draw.

“The positive side was we kept a clean sheet, the first time we’d done that in two games in a row this season.

“It shows the strides we’re making. Sides are coming to us and are grateful to get a point.”

Hamworthy United: Ackerman, Haysom, White, Horlock, Antrobus (Cannie 80), Spencer (Satterley 65), Robinson, Webb, Jackson, Burbidge, Ewen. Unused subs: Currell, Murray, Lillington.
