POOLE Town will be thrust under the media spotlight tonight after a familiar face – and Sky TV’s cameras – visited the town earlier this week.

Swindon Town star Charlie Austin, who made his name in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division with Poole, was back in Dorset to film a feature for Football League Weekend.

The hour-long programme, to be aired at 6pm this evening on Sky Sports 1, will show the goalscoring ace retracing the footsteps of his non-league days.

Austin, now regarded as one of English football’s hottest properties outside of the top flight, has made his name as a prolific striker for League One outfit Swindon.

His move to the Robins came about after a remarkable spell with the Dolphins, where he scored 64 goals in just 57 appearances, helping the club claim the Wessex Premier title.

On his visit to Poole, Austin popped in to see his former manager Tom Killick, a litigation executive with local firm Jacobs and Reeves.

Austin, a spectator on Tuesday night for Poole’s win over Brockenhurst, also visited best friend and old team-mate Micky Hubbard, who was busy at his day job as a team leader for Southern Gas Networks.

The show will see the former bricklayer paying a visit to Tatnam, his old stomping ground with Poole, where he forged his reputation as a fearsome goalscorer.
