VERWOOD boss Adie Arnold has lamented their FA Vase third round exit at the hands of Torpoint Athletic.

But he insisted Town shouldn’t be ashamed of missing out on the last-32 after losing 5-2 at home on Wednesday night.

The Sydenhams Wessex League Division One minnows, who trailed 4-1 at half-time, bagged consolation goals from Mike Haskell and Charlie Elysee.

Arnold said: “We defended very sloppily and four goals were down to mistakes. We knew we had to be at our best defensively to be in with a shout but weren’t.

“Fair play to Torpoint though. They’re a good side. But we did very well to get as far as we did.

“Our Vase run has shown what the club are capable of achieving.

“Now we have to take our earlier Vase form into the league.”

Arnold adds Pete King and Matt Newbery to his squad for their away league clash at Andover New Street tomorrow (3pm).
