TOM Drewett believes his struggling Oakmeadians side can seal South West One East survival.

The Meyrick Park-based outfit are stranded at the bottom of the table with only two wins in 13 matches.

But one of those came in a nail-biting 21-19 home victory over Wimborne several months ago.

So Oaks head for the return at Leigh Park tomorrow (2pm) in confident mood despite slumping to a 46-18 home setback against table-topping Maidenhead last weekend.

Oaks coach Drewett said: “I still believe we can turn the tide and stay up.

“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think we would be able to do that. If not, I’d give someone else a go. We beat Wimborne earlier in the season and I think we can beat them again.

“They’re a good side with a great team spirit and they’ve been together as a unit for quite a while. We’re pretty much a new team who are still getting to know each other.

“There were signs in the Maidenhead match that we’re beginning to get it together though, so we’ll give it our best shot against Wimborne tomorrow.”

All Blacks captain Russ Tinsdale, whose struggling side are only three points above Oaks, said: “It’s a must-win game for us. We need to start gaining points on the teams above and not let a gap open up. It’s a derby and the form book goes out the window.”

Oaks duo Jamie Tryska and Scott Hurley miss tomorrow’s derby through injury, but Wimborne welcome Stephen King and James Mikolajewski back from injury.
