NORTH Dorset sailed into the final of the Dorset and Wilts Vase after seeing off league rivals Corsham 17-13 at Slaughtergate.

Toby East kicked off North’s victory with a well-taken early penalty, before a second kick after 15 minutes increased the hosts’ advantage.

Peter Kennedy’s men, however, came under increasing pressure from Corsham’s forwards and after Tom Hooper was sin-binned, the visitors made hay from the resulting penalty.

With Corsham camped on the home side’s try line, North managed to halt two drives, but a third push was successful to make the score 6-5.

East thumped over a third penalty, though, before Charlie Jobling crashed over to increase North’s lead to 14-5.

And North continued to press after the break, with Corsham penalised under their posts and East opening up a 17-5 lead with an easy penalty.

However, the visitors rallied late on, bagging a try and penalty before a frenetic period of play saw North hold the ball up from another Corsham attack to book their place in the final.

Kennedy’s men will face either Salisbury or Wootton Bassett in the final after their last-four tie fell foul of the weather.

Swanage & Wareham’s South West One East campaign was boosted with a 17-10 win over third-placed Amersham & Chiltern.

After a cagey opening, Swans took the lead with a penalty try after half-an-hour, before Charlie Rowberry crashed under the posts early in the second half.

Phil Graves added his second conversion of the match to make the score 14-0.

A late rally from the visitors saw Paul Fagan pile over and Dan Kinsey add the extras, but Graves’s penalty fives minutes from time put the game beyond the visitors’ reach despite a late Kinsey penalty.

Swans: Dunsford, Rowberry, Parish, M Cottrell, Wilcox, Graves, Smyth (Prior, 74), Sheldrake, R Elford, Andrews, Burgess (Frampton, 64), Penney, Large (Warren, 64), Wright, Lewis.

• Meanwhile, Oakmeadians were beaten 28-3 at home to Walling-ford in South West One East, leaving the Meyrick Park outfit rooted to the bottom of the table.
