Cherries have, in the past few minutes, announced that Brett Pitman is set to join Bristol City, subject to a medical on Monday.

The Robins emerged as leading contenders for the highly-rated 22-year-old after his proposed move to Blackpool collapsed.

And Cherries this afternoon confirmed that the Championship outfit had agreed an undisclosed fee for the Jerseyman, who has agreed personal terms.

Chairman Eddie Mitchell admitted the club did not want to hold back the striker, who he described as an "outstanding player".

At one stage, it looked as if Pitman could feature for Cherries at Tranmere Rovers today after he failed to agree a move to Blackpool following talks on Thursday.

But as reported by the Echo, a second club entered the race to sign him and held negotiations with Cherries yesterday.

That club was Bristol City and manager Keith Millen has landed the sought-after striker, whose prolific goalscoring for Cherries also saw him linked with the likes of QPR, Swansea City and Ipswich Town.

Pitman’s departure will leave Cherries boss Eddie Howe with a severe shortage of fit strikers, with Steve Lovell and Steve Fletcher both sidelined by injury. Michael Symes is set to lead the line at Prenton Park, while the likes of Jayden Stockley and Lee Bradbury provide Howe’s other options.
