VETERAN goalkeeper Kevin Leonard – who once again starred against Cherries in the annual Magna Road friendly – admits he may call it a day at the end of this season.

The 45-year-old Hamworthy Recreation stopper produced another eye-catching performance in his side’s pre-season meeting with Cherries on Tuesday evening.

In front of a bumper crowd, Leonard denied Eddie Howe’s men on numerous occasions with a string of fine saves, including one exceptional stop from a Joe Partington header.

Rec lost 5-1 but Leonard was only beaten by Lee Bradbury’s opener before he was substituted on the hour to warm applause.

His efforts led Dean Court boss Howe to say: “Their goalkeeper was absolutely magnificent. He pulled off save after save and some of them were world class.

“Every year you think his time must have gone but he keeps pulling off great saves. He is the one that got away!”

However, Cherries’ path to goal against the Dorset Premier League outfit could be easier should they lock horns again next summer, with Leonard considering retirement.

An FA Vase winner at Wembley with Wimborne in 1992, he revealed he might choose to hang up his gloves at the end of the 2010-11 campaign.

Leonard told the Echo: “I’ve been at Hamworthy Recreation for eight, nine or 10 years now. I only came up for one season!

“I don’t think you’ll see me playing up here next year – you’ll probably see me stewarding the car park or something!”

He added: “I’m 45 now. I don’t feel like the father of the side – I feel like the grandfather!”
