CUP specialists Bournemouth will be hoping to avenge last year’s agonising loss at Ventnor when they face the same opposition in the quarter-finals of the Southern Electric Twenty20 Cup.

Ventnor were the last side to defeat the Chapel Gate outfit in the shortest format of the game, toppling them by three runs in the fourth round of the same competition on July 12, 2009.

On that occasion, Bournemouth, trophy winners in 2008, came up short chasing 131.

But the setback was well and truly forgotten when the club went on to become national Twenty20 kings by claiming the ECB Cockspur Cup at Derby.

In a thrilling finals day, televised live on Sky Sports, Craig de Weymarn’s men starred on the screen with two exceptional performances.

If they are to continue their Twenty20 success, Bournemouth will have to do it the hard way. Yet to be drawn at home in this season’s competition, they have so far seen off Calmore Sports and South Wilts en route to the last eight.

They will be confident of progressing after making a fine start to the season. The Dorset outfit lead Division One after an eight-match unbeaten run.

SE Twenty20 Cup quarter-final draw (ties to be played on Sunday, July 11): Bashley v Havant, Alton v Andover, Hook and Newnham Basics v Portsmouth, Ventnor v Bournemouth.
