ARTUR Mroczka insists the fight for the world under-21 title involves more riders than him and his Poole team-mate Darcy Ward.

The youngster, so impressive for Poole Castle Cover this year, helped Poland lift the global junior team cup for a fifth successive time last season.

Now he has his eyes firmly fixed on snatching Ward’s under-21 individual crown, which the Aussie teenager won in 2009.

Both Pirates contest the German semi-final in Landshut today aiming to finish in the top seven and reach the three-meeting final at Gdansk (July 17), Daugavpils (August 7) and Pardubice (October 2).

But Mroczka is not getting carried away about his chances after overshadowing Ward with some brilliant performances for Poole in the opening three months of this season.

Mroczka’s manager, Maciej Simionkowski, who has confirmed the Pole’s fitness ahead of today’s meeting, said: “The world under-21 title is not just a two-horse race.

“It’s a competition with some great riders. Artur knows it’s not just about Darcy and himself.

“There are a few really good Russian riders who are great prospects for the future.

“Riders like Artem Laguta and 16-year-old Vadim Tarasenko, who were second and third in the quarter-final Artur won at Gdansk.

“It’s really difficult to say which rider is the best junior at the moment.

“We’ll just have to see what happens in the final. But first we have to get a place in the final.”

Mroczka has been declared fit after aggravating an ankle injury in a spill on his senior World Championship bow in the Grand Prix of Poland at Torun last Saturday.
