THE top two in A Division, Poole Park and Richmond Park, both maintained momentum with victories over New Milton and Swanmore, respectively. Ann Walford, Julia Eatwell, Mo Mowlem and Penny Cresswell (24-17), supported by Rosemary Spetch’s rink (20-17), contained New Milton to ensure all six points for the Dolphins.
Richmond Park had to settle for five points after Swanmore skip Jenny Osborne held on to tie 20-20 with Richmond’s Muriel Groves. Sue Dillon, Dorothy Borthwick, Pam Harrison and Jill Bryant (20-14) ensured a 40-34 victory for Richmond Park.
Lymington suffered a shock 4-2 defeat at the hands of Iford Bridge after Anne Sedgewick’s quartet (22-12) did enough to cover Lymo’s winning skip Kay Richardson (18-15).
Redhill Park, however, still prop up the rest after their 4-2 home loss to Ferndown. A mammoth 32-3 from Dorothy Alner, Margaret Roberts, Denise Madgewick and Barbara Brown covered Redhill skip Pat Horgan.
Southbourne’s erratic season continued with a 4-2 (43-34) defeat by visitors West Moors. Marion Wake, Judith Miles, June Simmons and Janet Price (30-14) claimed the Moors’ top honours. Southbourne’s 20-13 winning rink was skipped by Sue Dadson.
B DIVISION
Leaders Pelhams slipped to third place after losing on both rinks to Highcliffe. A sparkling 25-14 from Rosemary Sullivan, Audrey Mason, Shirley Ambrose and Janet Emerson was topped up by Valerie Snook’s rink (16-13).
Braeside regained top spot after emerging 4-2 winners at West Moors. Barbara Tite’s rink (19-17) collected two points for the hosts, but they were outscored by the Braeside combination led by Carol Wood (20-13).
Broadstone moved in behind Braeside after Sylvia Edgson’s squad of Veronica Ness, Ros Valentine and Sibil Ball waltzed to a 32-14 win over Argyll. Lyn Howard’s crew (20-16) made it a 6-0 win for the Broads.
Kings Park, meanwhile, dispatched Brockenhurst back to the Forest with nothing to show for their visit. Mo Smith, June Wright, Murial Rose and Anne Ashcroft (19-15) combined with Beryl Nuttall’s rink (27-25) to give the Royals a 46-40 salute.
Elsewhere, Richmond Park are out of the drop zone after their 4-2 win at Wimborne. The Richmond quartet of Mary Rideout, Ann Devine, Linda Johnson and Eileen Deadman (29-19) just stayed ahead of Wimborne’s winning rink (26-17).
C DIVISION
Fordingbridge cruised to a 58-26 triumph over Southbourne, where Elsie Sanderson, Noreen Jones, Chris Carter and Mary Wych (32-11) combined with Jenny Alder’s rink (26-15) to |collect all six points for the Turks.
A 6-0 victory could have gone either way at Broadstone, but Branksome Park prevailed to win 5-1. Squirrels skip Lola Barker held off her opposite number Maureen Day to win 21-20, before Broadstone skip Carole Bamford snatched a 21-21 last-end tie with Irene Button.
Ringwood overcame Bournemouth after a 23-22 last-end win by skip Eileen Clarke was backed up by Breta Miller, Evelyn Rose, Mavis Hammond and Mary Macarthur (32-8).
Lymington, meanwhile, picked up a 4-2 win on the Magic Carpet where Braeside winning skip Pat Shepherd (22-18) was outscored by the Lymo rink of Jenny Kitcher, Ngaio Mapes, Hazel Yerby and Kath Randall (27-14).
Milford-on-Sea’s Sheila Hall, Pat Wingfield, Joan Moss and Di Goodyear recorded an impressive 35-7 triumph over Verwood.
D DIVISION
Dierdre Owen’s rink clinched a 15-14 win at Highcliffe. Jenny Cutler, Gina McGregor, Jenny Chalk and Gill Fagg (19-11) were the key to Alex’s 34-15 victory.
Poole Park seized all six points when inflicting a 54-30 defeat on Pelhams I. Gwyneth Foord’s squad of Rosemary Stainer, Muriel Coombes and Carrie Butcher carved into the Pelhams team to win 34-11.
Pelhams II suffered the same fate after crashing to a double-rink defeat at Swanmore. Doreen Durnford, Gill Bunce, Doreen Brown and Cathy Hayes (40-8) topped the bill for Swans.
Richmond Park’s challenge faltered when losing 4-2 at New Milton. With fellow skip Mary Herlihy having already won 23-14, Jo Craggs (22-14) picked up two shots on the last end to give New Milton a 37-36 triumph.
Ann Wilson, Beryl Webster, Margaret Crisp and Anne Gill, meanwhile, rang up a 43-9 humdinger in Christchurch’s 58-28 home win over Argyll.
E DIVISION
Moordown stayed in the runners-up spot after a huge 63-22 win at Ferndown, where Pat Martin’s crew of Maureen Affleck, Terri Shepherd and Mary Wilde went crazy, winning 36-8. Cathy France’s rink (27-14) made it 6-0 for Moordown.
Redhill Park put up stubborn resistance at Braeside but the hosts’ winning rink (22-13), skipped by Janet Young, did enough.
Iford Bridge, meanwhile, moved out of the bottom two with a 4-2 home win over Kings Park. Iford’s winning combination (27-11) gave Bridge the edge over the Royals’ winning skip Brenda Lewis (21-14).
New Milton picked up a useful six points to leapfrog their opponents of the day, West Moors.
n Broadstone maintained a 10-point lead after Braeside conceded the match.
F DIVISION
Southbourne finished up with a 4-2 (47.25-27.5) win at Redhill Park thanks to Suzanne Ager, Jean Telford, Anthea Chilcott and Madge Simpson.
Shelley Park shared the spoils 3-3 (32-32) at Poole Park, with Joan Smith claiming a 17-15 last-end win, but this was matched by Dolphin skip Barbara Gladwyn.
New Milton replicated their E Division mates with a 6-0 (41-31) victory at Branksome Park, while Highcliffe broke their duck with a maximum haul at Swanmore.
G DIVISION
Both Milford-on-Sea teams suffered 6-0 defeats, the seconds going down 38-29 to Richmond Park and the firsts 39-33 to Branksome Park.
