SOUTHERN League new boys Wimborne Town have bolstered their defence by making their first signing of the summer.

Boss Alex Browne has swooped to bring in centre-half Darren Curtis from Romsey Town.

Central defence was a problem position for Magpies last term, with brothers Nathan Walker and Michael Walker both quitting Cuthbury to join Dorchester Town and Poole Town, respectively.

And as Paul Roast continues to struggle with a knee problem, the capture of 29-year-old Curtis is particularly timely.

Discussing the former Salisbury City man, who started his career with Fulham, Browne said: “We’re delighted to have him on board.”

Meanwhile, Magpies have added to their list of summer friendlies.

They visit Poole Town and Sherborne (Monday, July 12 and Saturday, July 17), before hosting Dorchester Town (Tuesday, July 20).
