ALEXANDRA Park landed a technical KO to beat Section One rivals Boscombe Cliff 10-4 after the visitors’ skip was forced to leave the contest.

Darren Clarke’s three-man rink lost 25 per cent of their winning score (19-14), reduced to 14.25-14, but disastrously reduced Cliff’s match score to (69.25-71).

Boscombe Cliff skip Chris Martin had been urgently called away due to a family illness that brought into force the 25 per cent reduction rule.

Credit is still due to Dave Baxter, Eric Simon, Richard Cake and Steve Chalker (21-14) who were the bedrock of the Alex victory.

Southbourne remain in top spot after Mike Newton, Bill Smith, Richard Poole and Brian Jones (28-14) paved the way for a 10-4 (84-68) win at Branksome Park.

The Squirrels’ best reply came from Nigel Heaney’s rink (24-18).

At Poole Park, a steadfast performance from the Dolphins quartet of Derek Addis, Clive Fawkes, Paul Specks and Stuart Stephens (24-9) steered the hosts to a 10-4 (76-65) success over Bournemouth. Alan Wilson’s squad (21-17) gave the best response for the visitors.

Ringwood secured an 11-3 (79-65) win over hosts Knyveton Gardens after Richard Lawrence, Bob Huggett, Barrie Horne and Steve van Wyk starred for the Foresters.

Minstermen Tony Linley, Doug Lewis, Doug Smith and Colin Shew (26-12) led the way in Wimborne’s 83-66 defeat of Electric. The Sparkies had two winning skips, Ray Cooke (20-16), and Les Rogerson, who collected a last-end four to win 17-16.

SECTION TWO

West Moors’ combination of Tom Downes, Dave Hockaday, John Riddington and Dave Paget (25-8) gave a match-winning display to clinch an 11-3 (91-66) triumph over previous leaders New Milton.

The one winning rink for the New Forest club came from captain Bill Wallace (22-21).

Fordingbridge made doubly sure that three winning rinks would suffice this week. The Turks returned from Broadstone-Wessex with a 98-63 victory, with top honours going to Brian Wald-man, Ken Owen, Tim Westbury and Roy Moretti (98-63).

Lymington made an inland incursion to Pelhams and plundered all 14 points. Roy Richardson’s crew of Graham Morgan, Dave Stopp and Anthony Clarkson (33-10) led the raid in Lymo’s 111-52 triumph.

Kings Park skips Ian Davis (21-15) and Vernon Dillon (23-17) shared the honours in the Royals’ 76-70 win over Poole Park.

SECTION THREE

Knyveton Gardens A are the new front-runners after pocketing a 10-4 win at Swanage.

Top scorers in the Gardeners’ winning tally of 87-77 were Jeff Mann, Ron Roberts, Iain Fraser and Peter Habgood (29-11).

Redhill Park moved into second spot after a four-rink victory over Branksome Park A.

David Mould, Andy Davies, Darrell Reeves and Bob Kitchenham (22-15) contributed most to Redhill’s winning score of 81-59.

Moordown suffered badly on the Magic Carpet as the Braeside rink of Roy Butler, Mike Bull, Phill Hobby and Pat Day (31-6) laid the foundations for the Carpetbaggers’ 14-0 (102-44) onslaught.

Boscombe Cliff A were denied maximum points when losing a last-end measure in their 12-2 (91-68) defeat of Richmond Park. Cliff’s top rink was Peter Gregory, Derek Chapman, Fred Harwood and Brian Everard (27-15).

SECTION FOUR

West Moors A drew well clear of the pack after their win at New Milton A. But it was tight, as the final score of 68-65 confirms. Terry Simmons, Brian Burton, Bill Leworthy and Ken Hoare (21-14) gave the Moors the edge in their 10-4 victory. Ray Green’s squad (20-14) top-scored for the hosts.

Highcliffe’s three successful rinks against Ringwood were headed by Tony Smith, Ken Haines, Bill Berry and Alan Shepherd, whose 29-19 included a hot-shot. Highcliffe eventually ran out 83-73 winners.

Maurice Little, Jim Dustan, John Cuff and Bill Sadler (26-11) saw Bournemouth A through to a 12-2 (77-73) win against Christchurch. Ron Woodcock’s squad (27-11) salvaged two points for the Priory.

Poole Park B defeated visitors Argyll on three rinks, with the top-billing going to Ray Pugh, David Dean, Stan Cocklin and Jim Stainer (27-14) as the Dolphins notched a 94-72 victory.

SECTION FIVE

Wimborne A took all 14 points in their 96-59 victory at Knyveton Gardens. The visitors’ skip John Armfield (20-19), collected a last-end three to back up the Minstermen’s top quartet of Kevin O’Connell, Alan Hughes, Roger Gallup and Percy Swinson (33-10).

It was a case of ‘Royals on the Rampage’ after Peter Winters, Pat Roache, Colin Colebrook and Ray Williams (33-9), allied to a hot-shot on John Monk’s rink (33-10), saw Kings Park A storm to a 12-2 (102-64) win at Richmond Park.

Southbourne B suffered a setback after losing 10-4 (85-62) at Ferndown. The Stags’ victory was secured after Peter Sayer, Peter Payne, Colin Proctor and Graham Hogg romped in with a 33-8 win.

Pelhams A skip Andrew Lewis (22-20) denied Boscombe Cliff B maximum points after a last-end win.

Three winning rinks topped by Basil Phillips, Rod Watts, John Coles and Michael Drage (29-10), saw the Cliff register their first victory (100-66).

SECTION SIX

Highcliffe A rattled up a 12-2 (89-12) win over leaders Poole Park C. Keith Day, Ian Ewance, Graham Davies and Peter Hayworth romped in for the hosts (33-8).

At Southbourne, Eric Mardling (19-19) grabbed a draw to add to Reg Everitt’s 17-15 success, but Branksome Park A’s two winning rinks, led by Dick Richard-son’s quartet (19-11), gave the Squirrels an 11-3 (74-65) victory.

Argyll’s first win looked secure after Mike Merridew’s rink won 33-15, but Wimborne’s three winning rinks combined to give them a 12-2 (79-77) success, inspired mainly by Alan Garland’s rink (27-11).

Iford Bridge A registered their first win with a three-rink triumph over Swanmore A. Bob Kiddle, Peter Nickowski, Alan Rankin and Brian Packman (25-20) contributed most to Iford’s 74-65 winning total.
