European Youth Olympics champion Amelia Maughan set her third national record in eight days at the South West Youth Championships.

It came in the heats of the 200m freestyle in which the 13-year-old recorded a time of 2:03.65, slicing 0.7sec off the British 13yrs age group record set by Ceri Unwin in 2005.

Bournemouth Dolphins member Maughan, swimming for Millfield, went on to win the event in a slower time and the 100m freestyle in 57.29 (heat 57.09).

The record came barely a week after she broke the British age group record for the 50m freestyle and her own National Arena League record for the 100m freestyle.

Dolphins’ other Millfield swimmer at the South West event, Joe Poynter, 15, won gold in the 15-16yrs 800m freestyle in 8:35.82, silver in the 200m free (1:58.52) and was fourth in the 200 and 400m medley.
