WIMBORNE Town chairman Ken Stewart is “pretty confident” the club’s promotion to the Southern League will be rubber-stamped later this week.

The Magpies look set to profit from Poole Town’s ground-grading difficulties and move up the non-league ladder at their arch-rivals’ expense.

Dolphins retained the Wessex League title but are unable to go up due to their facilities. So despite finishing a massive 18 points adrift of Tom Killick’s team, the door was opened to runners-up Wimborne and they seem set to capitalise.

After their Cuthbury home was deemed fit for step four following an inspection yesterday, the Dorset outfit are hopeful of taking their place in the higher level next term.

Speaking after the ground-grading inspector had given the green light to the venue, Magpies chief Stewart told the Echo: “The inspector gave us the thumbs-up.

“That is one step forward and there is a meeting tomorrow and, hopefully, the invite will follow shortly.

“I can’t see too many problems. The inspector was happy with the ground and there is nothing we need to do with the ground – it’s all in place.

“There is a meeting tomorrow at the Football Association, so on Friday the Southern League meet and go through it.

“Hopefully by Saturday or next Monday, we should know definitely.

“But I’m pretty confident. From what the inspector said, there’s absolutely no problem with the ground.”
