POOLE Town veteran Taffy Richardson admits he is eagerly awaiting another potentially stormy clash with Bemerton as his side look to clinch a Wessex League double.

The reigning Premier Division champions bid to add another trophy to the Tatnam cabinet when they take on Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the League Cup final at Hurn Bridge on Monday (3pm).

Dolphins and Bemerton have a history of feisty encounters – the most recent seeing Heath Harlequins robbed of victory by the controversial non-allowing of a ‘goal’ after a shot which was widely thought to have crossed the line.

And vastly-experienced midfielder Richardson, whose side were presented with the championship silverware earlier this week, is looking forward to renewing old rivalries.

He said: “The games against Bemerton are always a bit stormy, but it is never a problem. The games are quite good to play in – they give as good as they get.

“It sounds stupid, but I get on quite well with the players on the pitch. There is lots of talking going on, which is sometimes aggressive, but you have respect for players who give a bit.

“They don’t lie down and die and I would rather play them in a close game then beat someone 6-0.”

Michael Walker is cup tied, injured Trefor Smith is likely to miss out and Ryan Dovell is doubtful.

Meanwhile, Poppies brought the curtain down on their fine season with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Hayling United on Thursday night. A double from Dan Cann helped Kenny Vaughan’s men to victory and fourth place.
