DREW Talbot’s double shattered Cherries’ perfect home start as Chesterfield continued to have the Indian sign over the Dorset club at Dean Court.

The striker netted twice during a first half dominated by the rampant Spireites as below par Cherries were given the run-around.

Eddie Howe’s troops, who had conceded only once in winning their opening five league games, shipped two inside 30 disastrous first-half minutes.

And Talbot’s brace helped the Derbyshire outfit extend to six their unbeaten record at Dean Court since Cherries’ last win over them in April 2002.

However, the visitors were certainly made to sweat for their victory with Cherries halving the deficit through Danny Hollands 15 minutes from time.

His strike rewarded Cherries for a stirring second-half display, although Howe’s men were unable to fashion an equaliser despite their endeavours after the break.

Chesterfield made an enterprising start and took the lead in the 15th minute through Talbot’s scrambled effort.

The striker pounced to convert the loose ball from close range after Cherries goalkeeper Shwan Jalal had parried Jamie Lowry’s free kick.

Earlier, Talbot’s turn of pace and cross had threatened to cause problems for Cherries before Ryan Garry eventually cleared the danger.

And as the visitors enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, Donal McDermott’s sweetly-struck left-foot drive was well saved by Jalal.

Cherries’ first chance of note came midway through the first half when Brett Pitman’s blistering free kick found the side netting.

However, as the hosts began to gain a foothold, Steve Fletcher came within a whisker of levelling when Blues goalkeeper Tommy Lee kept out his far-post header.

But Jalal prevented Chesterfield from doubling their lead when he got down smartly to smother Jack Lester’s snapshot after 31 minutes.

And as the visitors continued to scythe through Cherries, Lester clipped a glorious chance on to the top of the net.

It was no surprise when Chesterfield made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, Talbot’s adroit finish squeezing in at the near post.

A substitution at the break saw Lee Bradbury replace Anthony Edgar, with a tactical switch seeing Liam Feeney pushed into a more advanced role.

And the change invigorated Cherries as they went close to reducing the arrears on several occasions during the opening stages of the second half.

Pitman was twice denied by last-ditch goalline clearances, while Warren Cummings saw his inswinging corner beaten away by Lee.

The woodwork then came to Chesterfield’s rescue after Fletcher’s towering header from Feeney’s cross came back off the crossbar.

And after Bradbury had seized on a weak punched clearance from Lee, his effort fizzed over the top.

Cherries were finally rewarded for their vastly-improved second-half display when Hollands pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining.

The skipper was on hand to steer the loose ball past Lee after another effort from Fletcher had been cleared off the line.

Alan Connell had a chance to salvage a point for Cherries in the closing stages, only to see his effort strike defender Rob Page, while a Bradbury header flashed wide.
