BOURNEMOUTH BMX club members came away with six titles at the Southern BMX Championships at Andover.

The ever-determined youngster Kobi Joyce (Ultimate BMX) rode well throughout the day and won every race he entered despite nursing a damaged thumb sustained the previous day when taking third place in the South West Championships. Parkstone-based Joyce lifted the biggest trophy of his young career, with his nearest rival Mat Hutt disqualified for unsportsmanlike behaviour after Joyce offered to shake his hand after the event.

Jordan Hatcher (Dialled Bikes) overcame his season-long rival Jimmy Orena to win the 12-year boys’ event with fellow club member Elliot Pateman taking a creditable third.

Bournemouth’s Lewis Lacey (Chain Reaction Cycles) cruised to victory in his first competitive outing since breaking an ankle two months ago, while James Chadwick was rewarded with fourth place.

Jack Smallpiece (Profile Racing) rode to victory in the 15-year boys’ race .

Pete Warner took the 17-29yrs Cruiser title.

Club veteran Jon Moore (Dialled Bikes) normally rides the 40-plus category but decided to challenge himself in the 19-plus Payback class, a category where prize money is on offer. His fitness and bravery was rewarded, mixing it with the younger riders to reach the semi-finals.

With Moore missing, it was up to Bernie Schalee to shine in the 40-plus event.
