SUPERSUB Charlie Knight came off the bench to fire Bashley to a 3-2 victory over Brackley – their first away league win of the season – and up to second place in the Southern League Premier Division table.

Knight lashed home what turned out to be the winner on 88 minutes after Bashley had survived an anxious second half at St James Park.

Bash player-coach Chris Ferrett said: “We started well and went into a 2-0 lead before Mark Gamble unfortunately missed a penalty which would have given us a nice cushion at the break.

“They threw everything at us in the second half but we defended well. Charlie came on to whack one in from 25 yards to ease the pressure and we had enough to hold on after they had scored again.

“We said we needed to start turning draws into wins if we were to remain in the top five so it was really pleasing. Brackley will be up there at the end of season so it was a great return. It was a good all-round team performance.”

First-half goals from Mark Gamble (10 minutes) and Justin Keeler (26 minutes) paved the way for victory.
