INJURED Magnus Zetterstrom is rated only 50-50 to make his Pirates comeback at Ipswich tonight.

Zorro has revealed that he is suffering a haematoma in the left hip. It developed following a break in the wall of a blood vessel sustained after a series of heavy speedway spills.

The Swede crashed heavily twice at Coventry on his way to Grand Prix Challenge glory on September 18 and fell twice again in the Avesta Masters a week later.

He was then forced to pull out of the Czech Golden Helmet qualifiers after only three rides last weekend because his hip had become “a balloon of blood.”

Zorro, who desperately wants to line up for Pirates at Foxhall (7.30pm) in the Coastal Windows Cup, said: “It all depends on what the doctor says today when I see him in Swanage.

“As a speedway rider you think you’ll be alright, but I went to see a specialist in Sweden and he said it’s not looking good.

“He drained my hip to let the pressure down so I could ride in Pardubice the following day.

“The leg is just getting sorer and sorer every day. It’s the left leg, the balancing leg, so that’s not so bad.

“But I have to get an answer from the doctor about what it might do if I have another crash.”

Zorro added: “When Matt Ford and Middlo looked at my hip they said ‘what are you doing over here?’ But I’m really looking forward to riding in these meetings for the Pirates.

“After my GP win at Coventry, it’s a great chance for me to come back to England to show what I can do and to celebrate with the Pirates fans because Poole has always been my second home.

“We’ll see what happens today, what the doctor decides.

“I might need to take one day off, ride at Eastbourne on Saturday and then in the double-header against Ipswich and Eagles at Poole next Wednesday.

“I’ve been very sore, limping around, but I can’t make myself 100-per-cent fit. I’m not going to go out and not be ready to race because that would be cheating the public.

“I could have said to Matt ‘I can’t ride’ but when you want it so much, it’s not always a straightforward decision.

“I’m doing everything I can to line up for Pirates in these meetings.”

Poole’s home clash against Ipswich was rained-off last night and will be re-staged next Wednesday as the second fixture in a double-header, with Eagles on first.

Admission for that meeting will be £18 (adults), £15 (OAPs) and children aged up to 15 free when accompanied by a paying adult, based on one child per one adult.
