TONY'S TURBOT

THE sixth round of the four-a-side inter-club Neptune League was held along the Warren Edge section at Southbourne where competitors found some lively action with mackerel, turbot, tub gurnard, scad, sole and garfish all figuring in the catch.

The night’s heaviest fish was a 2-0 turbot beached by Tony Ward representing Boscombe & Southbourne SFC.

The winning team on the night was Bournemouth and District SAA A with 12-3, the team comprised of Jeffery Fish, Steve Bishop, Malcolm Parsons and Brian Fisk.

Others: 2 Lymington & District (12-2.5), 3 Christchurch & District A (12-2), 4 Bournemouth & District B (10-13), 5 Team Boscombe (9-1.5), 6 Christchurch Angling Cons (6-3).

n The Lymington club now heads the overall leader table in the weight category with 38-14.75 followed by Team Boscombe 35-0.5 and Bournemouth & District A 37-7. In the points section, Lymington again head the table with 17 penalty points followed by Bournemouth & District A (18) and then Christchurch & District A (22). The Milford Shingle Bank is the setting for the next round in the series on October 12 with fishing from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Pout and dogfish are expected to supply most of the action although the odd early codling could also be on the cards.

ROLLY COLLECTS £500

THE Poole Bay Small Boat FC open specimen competition attracted more than 70 competitors who recorded some quality fish.

Rolly Miller collected the £500 top prize for a 1-8 red gurnard. Craig White was £300 better off after coming second with a 40-15 conger while Malcolm DeJersey was third with a 9-13.5 bull huss to collect £200.

Others: 4 R Trickett (13-1 undulate ray), 5 P Dore (8-13 bull huss), 6 D Whitfield (4-5 brill).

DOGFISH WINNER

A GOOD variety of species including scad, garfish, sole, plaice, gurnard, pout, dogfish and poor cod were recorded during the latest round of the Samalite League which was held at Burton Bradstock.

The night’s heaviest fish was a 1-13 dogfish taken by local angler Glenn Short.

Results, A Zone: 1 Gerald Barnes (8-1), 2 Ian Dancey (7-13), 3 Steve Smythe (7-3). B Zone: 1 Glenn Short (8-7), 2 Ant Buik (8-2), 3 Dave Bennett (7-7).

The next round in the pegged open league will be held at Abbotsbury on October 31 with fishing from 5pm to 10pm. Whiting, pout and dogfish are expected to dominate along with the occasional codling.
