Holt United manager Wayne Jerome hailed super striker Jesse Hodgson after he bagged four goals on his Bulls debut in a 7-2 triumph over Sherborne Town.

Hodgson, who joined the club from Poole Borough, combined beautifully with Steve Devlin, who also notched a hat-trick.

Despite Holt going 1-0 down after 22 minutes to a Chris Cowley strike, Devlin levelled three minutes later.

He bagged his second to put the Bulls in charge on 35, before Hodgson opened his account five minutes before the break.

The floodgates flew wide open after the interval as Hodgson ran in three more and Devlin slotted home his third.

Ian Jenkins got a late consolation for Sherborne, but it was not enough to take the shine off a superb afternoon for Bulls’ dynamic duo.

A delighted Jerome said: “We played Devlin in behind the front two and the link-up play with Jesse was unbelievable.

“Apart from a free-kick from Steve, I think they set each other up for all the goals.

“To bring a striker in for his first game and see him score four goals is quite pleasing really.”

Hodgson joined the Bulls after playing just one game in Borough colours. He has also featured for Hamworthy Recreation this term.

Jerome added: “Jesse had his critics from Ham Rec and Poole Borough but I said to him on Saturday that he’d certainly answered them with that performance.”

Elsewhere, Sturminster Marshall ran riot 6-0 at Hamworthy United.

A brace from Darrell Williams, plus strikes from Ross Humphrey, Scott Thomas, Dan Park and an own goal secured the points in style.

Sturminster Newton stunned second-placed Swanage Town and Herston after coming from 2-0 down to bag a 2-2 draw.

A Liam Currell effort and an own goal put the visitors in front at the interval, but Robert Froud pulled one back before a Ross Newell penalty levelled the contest.

Poole Borough bagged their first win in four with a 3-0 triumph at Cobham Sports.

A Ross Mills penalty opened the scoring after 24 minutes, before Dominic Allen’s goal just after the hour mark and Max Wilcox’s stoppage-time strike saw the Hornets home.

Hamworthy Recreation cemented their top-three spot after winning 3-1 at Chickerell United.

Ryan Lucas put them ahead after 11 minutes, before Richard Sands doubled their lead just after the break.

Warren White pulled one back for the Chickens but Jamie Moores made sure of the points with 15 minutes remaining.

BlandFord United picked up an impressive 1-1 draw at Westland Sports.
